Practice Description:
Angela (“Angie”) Russo specializes in Family Law Mediation and Collaborative Law. Angie is committed to educating, supporting, and providing parties with excellent mediation services at affordable rates. She mediates family law disputes: child custody, parenting time, spousal support, finances and property division. She will travel and mediate at locations convenient to the parties and their attorneys.
Angie is a court-connected mediator in Multnomah and Columbia counties.
Approach to Practice / Form of Mediation:
Angie practices interest-based facilitative mediation. Angie will tailor the mediation session to the parties’ needs and particular situation. Angie meets with each party individually before the beginning of a joint session. During the individual sessions, Angie learns first hand about the issues that are most important to each party, how to support each party during a session, and what dynamics tend to affect the parties when they communicate.
Understanding both parties needs from the beginning, Angie can help the parties structure a format and process that will work best for them. The parties set goals and determine an order to discuss the contested issues that makes sense for them. Angie can set the length of the sessions based on the parties’ schedules and their negotiation staminas.
Background:
Angie’s client-centered and caring style developed out of her previous experience in the classroom and courtroom. From her pre-graduate work in Harlem, New York City (educating 5th and 6th graders through Teach for America), to her work as a Felony Domestic Violence Deputy District Attorney in the San Francisco Bay Area, she has always strived to ensure the rights of those working with her were protected and their voices were heard. Her previous work in a variety of high conflict settings gives her a unique ability to defuse volatile situations and help parties obtain positive results.
Education / Training:
University of California, Hastings College of the Law, Juris Doctorate (2010)
Bank Street College of Education, Masters of Science in Education (2006)
University of California, Berkeley, Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, Development Studies and French (2004)
