Practice Description:
After two decades of successfully litigating scores of cases and helping organizations and businesses resolve conflict, Sheryl became convinced that most parties, with the right assistance, could craft better outcomes for themselves than could be obtained in court. In short, mediation provides parties a better way forward for lasting solutions, re-formed relationships, and asset preservation.
Approach to Practice / Form of Mediation:
Sheryl uses a facilitative, interest-based approach. She prefers the facilitative style because she believes the best and most durable resolutions are those achieved by the parties themselves. She has found the parties generally know the issues and priorities, personalities and obstacles to a successful resolution, as well as their own needs, better than any attorney, mediator or judge. Sheryl does not impose her own views or make decisions for the parties. Rather, she assists the parties in creating options that meets their needs. When the situation warrants, Sheryl is not averse to being proactive and offering a generous dose of reality, particularly when the process may have stalled due to unrealistic expectations of an attorney or client, a failure to focus on needs rather than demands, or when one or more parties need to be reminded of the potential consequences of unresolved or escalated dispute.
