2018 Awards of ExcellenceOMA Award of Excellence nominations Do you know some special mediator who is overdue for recognition of their mediation talent and service? Of course you do! Now’s your chance to let the whole Oregon mediation community know about her or him. Nominate someone in any of the three categories of private practitioner, public employee, or volunteer. If you attended the 2017 OMA conference, perhaps you recall how wonderful it felt to give and receive praise during Chris Sheesley’s “trinkets of recognition” presentation. This is your chance to do it for real and for someone who deserves to be highlighted. Nominations are open until September 1st, and awards will be presented at the 2018 Conference on November 9th. For more information and to submit a nomination, click here.
Mark Your Calendar for the Spring Training! Dates have been set for this year’s annual spring training, Toolz for Tough Conversations:
Led by Mary Dumas, who has worked for over 30 years in diverse perspectives in policy, research, and community-action initiatives, Toolz works on the idea “that civility in our democracy, community, and workplaces is not about squelching assertiveness, protest, civil disobedience, or rigorous discussion of the issues.” Instead, the program teaches people how to use conflict de-escalation, diplomacy, and civil discourse to address challenges--whether they are at home, work, or in the community at large. Join us for this full-day workshop that is more relevant than ever. Registration coming soon. Some financial aid will be available. Questions? Please contact the site nearest you or oma@ormediation.org. Name the NewsletterWe Need Your Help! OMA would like you to help us decide the new name of the OMA Newsletter! Please submit your creative name ideas to oma@ormediation.org by 6/31/2018. The OMA board will select the top four name submissions and all OMA members will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite name out of the four. OMA Listserv Coming this SpringOMA is excited to share that we are working on a new listserv project that will enable OMA members to communicate directly with each other by email. Members will be able to share information and opportunities, ask questions and raise concerns related to the practice of dispute resolution with other members who have chosen to participate. We plan to launch by late spring. We will post more information, including listserve rules and how to opt in, here. We expect this listserv to become a valuable asset for our members!
Reminder: Celebration of Life for Cynthia MooreThe OMA community lost a much valued and loved member, Cynthia Moore, this January. Join us for a memorial gathering in celebration of her life. There will be potluck style snacks, a photo slideshow, and lots of opportunities to share memories. We hope this will be a special time to honor our friend Cynthia’s life, and her years of support for OMA and the mediation community.
