OMA Longtime Member and Volunteer Passes

Cynthia Leslie Moore, born in Bennington, Vermont, on November 23, 1954, died at Peacehealth Riverbed Hospital in Springfield, Sunday, January 21, 2018. She was the daughter of Margareta Waterman and Lewis Murdock and Kenneth and Antoinette Moore.

Cynthia lived the early years of her life in New York City, accomplishing many things including working for Book-of-the-Month club and helping to establish First Run Features, an independent film distributor. In 1986, she moved to rural Douglas County, Oregon, where she devoted her time to non-profit organizations such as United Way, Oregon Mediation Association, and Umpqua Valley Arts Association. She established Neighbor to Neighbor, a local mediation service.

In 2004, Cynthia married the love of her life, Michael Mendenhall. A few years later, Michael was offered a job in China, where they lived until 2010. Cynthia embarked on this adventure with great excitement, taking classes in Mandarin language and Sichuan cooking. While there she continued her work with non-profits, helping Winrock International with its Tibetan relief project. Cynthia cared deeply about people and made many meaningful contributions to the world.

Cynthia loved children, especially her granddaughter Penelope, great-niece Miriam, and great-nephew Gavin. She had a special relationship with her nieces Reina and Ivory. Cynthia will be missed by many.

OMA is planning a celebration of life in Cynthia's honor. Date to be determined. If you have any photos please send them to Amy Herman: amy.chase.herman@gmail.com
