Hello OMA members and friends!

Throughout 2018, we will be sending monthly communication emails that will include a link to our events calendar, and other current news and announcements!

This month we are also calling out for volunteers, so that we can start this year strong! More information below.  We also want to introduce the new and returning board members!

   Calendar  (click me!)

This is the place to find (and publicize) upcoming opportunities.  Browse the calendar for training and professional development, networking events, special interest group meetings, and more.

To submit an event for the calendar (or to make revisions to existing events) please email: Calendar@ORMediation.org

Volunteer Opportunities

Get Involved!

OMA is a volunteer-run membership organization. This means that the vast majority of work that OMA does to develop, support, and advocate for mediation and serve its members is done by the dozens of dedicated volunteers. From daily administration to special projects, volunteers make it happen. Below are many of the OMA committees who need your help!

Education

The education committee focuses OMA’s educational offerings for everything BUT the conference.  We need committee members to help plan and organize educational workshops and events for mediators and the public.  Our goal with each workshop is to help to grow the effective practice of mediation.

Convener: Jennifer Tenorio, jennifer.s.tenorio@gmail.com

Advocacy Committee

The Advocacy Committee is comprised of members who help track legislation and other public policies that affect the practice of mediation.  Committee members develop information to share with OMA members, develop responses for the Board to consider making to specific legislation, and, when needed, attend hearings to either hear testimony or make statements about proposed rules and regulations. Ideally, committee members have experience and knowledge of public processes and/or the ability to research and track laws, rules, and regulations.

Convener: John Inglish, jinglish@uoregon.edu

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee is in the process of forming a new team to help keep members and others informed and engaged across a variety of platforms. We are looking to fill roles that range from Social Media Manager to Blog and Flash Editors to Content Provider. Whether you are interested in helping build out and manage a platform or occasionally provide content, we have a role for you. Contact the co-conveners for more information.

Co-Conveners: Jennifer Tenorio, jennifer.s.tenorio@gmail.com, and Donna Silverberg, donna@dsconsult.co

Conference Committee

Help plan next year’s conference so we can continue to offer a top-rate conference experience to our members, friends and the public!  Join this committee now to debrief this year’s conference and start planning for next year’s event.  As always, it will be the first Friday and Saturday of November.

Co-Conveners: Tera Cleland, tera.cleland@greshamoregon.gov, and Wesley Lucas, wjl1990@yahoo.com

Membership

The Membership Committee is all about helping members connect to OMA, and each other.  We also work to increase the value of OMA membership. Join the membership committee to help plan and host networking and social events, represent the interests of members by finding innovative ways to enhance membership benefits, and acknowledge members for achievements and contributions to OMA. Join the conversation and help shape member services! We are seeking geographic diversity, so we have people best suited to represent members from outside the greater Portland area in all we do and plan.

Convener: Amy Chase Herman, amy.chase.herman@gmail.com

Standards and Practice

The Standards and Practices Committee is recruiting OMA members who are interested in the improvement and education of mediator ethics and standards and practices.  The main charges of the Standards and Practices Committee include reviewing and maintaining currency of the OMA Core Standards of Mediation Practice, the Ask OMA column, the OMA Mediator Complaint Process, presentations at the OMA annual conference, and engaging in statewide conversations such as mediator certification and proposed legislation.

While the time commitment is not significant, a strong candidate is a person who is motivated to improve the practice of mediation.  We are seeking individuals from various practice areas who are committed to jumping into the committee’s work alongside experienced committee members.  The primary task of 2018 is a review and update of the OMA Core Standards.  The committee holds monthly telephonic meetings and the monthly time commitment is approximately 5 hours.  If you are interested in the advancement and education of mediator ethics and standards and practices or would like to know more about the committee’s work, please contact Lisa Amato.

Convener: Lisa Amato, lisa@amatomediation.com

Technology Committee

Techies! The Technology Committee is looking for techies to spread the workload managing the website, CRM, and other platforms, as well as to help evaluate and implement improvements. Members with web-development, CRM, and other hard skills would be a boon.  Please connect with us so we can keep helping other members connect to each other!

Convener: Brian Egan, brian@mediationclarity.com
